As an adult teen/YA novel series are a guilty pleasure. Normally, I gravitate toward the dystopias, but this regency romance was quite enchanting! I got caught up in the angst and natural flow of the story. Jewell is a great writer and has come up with such a delightful storyline that I read the second half of the book straight through. I am excited to see where this story will unfold as the next books are released. Love having great series to like forward to!!

I think these books would be an especially good intro to the genre for teens, but even as an adult, I loved this book! The characters were layered, the romance was compelling (I’m usually more of a spicy reader, but even with this being a YA, the CHEMISTRY alone??? Chefs kiss), the story and world building were ACTUALLY unique—I’m definitely looking forward to the next one!

If you're a fan of Regency Romance, you will really like the Soldier and the Maid. Once I started, I could not put it down! Right from chapter 1, thing's happen that I did not expect that kept me on my toes throughout the entire book. So well written. I enjoyed every minute of this story. Excitedly waiting for more from W. Jewell Hansen.

Biography

8695.jpg

W. Jewell Hansen writes romantic fantasy about loyalty, identity, and love tested under pressure. Her Sovereign Hearts series blends political intrigue with tender, slow-burn romance and richly imagined kingdoms inspired by history and heart.

She believes courage is often quiet, love is strongest when it’s chosen daily, and stories should leave readers feeling both swept away and steady.

When she’s not building kingdoms on the page, Whitney is raising two boys, managing an ever-growing collection of animals, and tackling home projects that are probably slightly more ambitious than they need to be.
